We hope you enjoyed the volunteer articles and the story of this emotional journey. But the journey continues a little longer … Indeed, the Mandaug 2019 team brought back in its suitcases a bundle of letters written by Filipino schoolchildren for the students from Charlotte to Châtellerault.
Charlotte was able to welcome her students (CM1-CM2 double level) with this nice news. They were looking forward to receiving an answer to their letters sent earlier in the year. They diligently deciphered this mail from the other side of the world, and in English please! The fourth graders who were not involved in writing and sending the letter to the Philippines were in awe of the fourth graders, and are looking forward to writing a letter as well. In addition to the objective of opening up to another culture and discovering the world, the teacher is leading this project to make the children want to learn English, and illustrates with this very concrete exchange the usefulness of foreign languages.
“Very often, they [the CM2 pupils of the Lakanal school in Châtellerault] realize that they know many more words than they imagined, and they rack their brains to understand the meaning of unknown words”. The display of exchanges in the classroom is a window on the world.
Thank you to the children and Charlotte for their investment, thank you to the school management team, to the inspectorate and to the city of Châtellerault for its support.
