Context: Charlotte’s class in Châtellerault and Anna Fe’s pupils in Mandaug exchange letters in English as part of the Link project.
At the beginning of September, the people of Châtellerault discovered with joy and curiosity the 53 small individual presentation cards as well as a large collective letter. The whole thing, sent from Mandaug by Anna Fe’s pupils, was written in English. The pupils from Châtellerault (CM1-CM2) translated what they could using what they had learned in class, and then tried to decode the words they did not know. The children were particularly motivated in this task because it made sense.
After this reading assignment, the Châtelleraudais prepared their answers.
“We thought about the contents of our letter. The children decided to explain their life as schoolchildren in Châtellerault and to ask questions about schoolchildren’s lives in Mandaug.”
Thank you for your letter!
When do you go to school ? When do you have holiday ? What do you learn ? How many hours a day ?
The students attached to their letters photos, drawings, handmade crafts for their Filipino pen pals. They diligently prepared 58 small woven baskets into which they slipped folded mini English albums.
We have received an acknowledgement of receipt from the Mandaug school and at the time of writing, the Filipino students are surely deciphering their letters. Happy reading!
Écoliers des Philippines thanks the children and teachers for their involvement, as well as the inspector, the principals and the town of Châtellerault for their support.
